Born in Caracas, Venezuela, to Portuguese parents, Aires Pereira joined Moonspell as a live bassist in 2003 before becoming a full-time member a few years later. His first studio appearance with the band came on Under Satanae (2007), and since then he has become an integral part of Moonspell's rhythm section, contributing to every subsequent release while establishing himself as one of the band's most charismatic live performers.
A lifelong metalhead, Aires grew up immersed in the classics of the genre, developing a particular admiration for Iron Maiden and Mercyful Fate, whose influence continues to shape his powerful yet melodic bass playing. Combining precision, groove and an unmistakable stage presence, he has become a driving force behind Moonspell's live performances and a favourite among the Wolfpack.
Before joining Moonspell, Aires established himself within the Portuguese metal scene as the bassist of Malevolence, one of the country's pioneering doom/death metal bands. Outside Moonspell, he has remained active through projects including Ironsword, appearances as a live bassist for Sinsaenum, and Cordeiros de Deus, a tribute to American metal giants Lamb of God that reflects both his sense of humour and his enduring passion for modern heavy music.
Since becoming a permanent member of Moonspell, Aires has toured extensively throughout Europe, North and South America, Asia and Australia, performing at many of the world's most prestigious festivals and helping bring the band's music to audiences across the globe. His infectious energy, positive spirit and genuine connection with fans have made him an essential presence both on and off the stage.
Aires is the proud father of three children—Ariana, Aires Jr. and Diego—and has spoken openly about his personal journey towards sobriety, an important milestone that has strengthened both his personal and professional life. Whether performing with Moonspell, supporting fellow musicians or sharing stories with fans, he remains known for his warmth, resilience and unwavering dedication to the music and the community that have shaped his life.
